DanceSport Victoria and the Latrobe City Council are very pleased and excited to present the 2nd Annual Latrobe City DanceSport Classic.
This includes DanceSport participants from all around Victoria competing in the following event categories:
The evening program will include all the glitz and glamour that can DanceSport provides combined with the athleticism of some of Australia’s best dancers.
DanceSport is the term used to refer to competitive ballroom dancing. This is a more suitable name to its modern image which involves balancing the artistry of dance with athleticism.
Athletic and artistic demands of DanceSport
Ballroom dancing has evolved from a social event to a competitive sport. It now requires athletes to use a prescribed technique which includes displaying:
- physical strength
- agility and coordination
- stamina and fitness
- discipline and teamwork
- grace and style
- musical interpretation
Today, it is now recognised by the International Olympic Committee as a sport and is expected to eventually be included in the Olympic program.
Who can join DanceSport
DanceSport is one of the few activities currently engaging everyone from any age. You can start as early as six or as old as sixty. It has no boundaries, so long as you enjoy dancing then DanceSport welcomes you.
Age group for dancers in Australia
These are the age bracket for individuals wishing to join DanceSport.
- Juvenile (under 13 years)
- Junior (13-15 years)
- Youth (16-19 years)
- Adult (16-34 years)
- Masters 1 (35-49 years)
- Masters 2 (50-59 years)
- Masters 3 (60+ years)
