Meet the organisers

The Latrobe DanceSport is the result of the coming together of dancesport experts, Anna Longmore and Meagen Alderton.

In partnership with the Latrobe City Council, they are hoping that this will inspire more dancesport enthusiasts to follow their dream of becoming Australia’s next dancesport champion. Otherwise, everyone is welcome to experience the fun and enjoyment dancesport has to offer.

Anna Longmore

Anna began dancing in 1991 in her hometown of Wagga Wagga, NSW.  Starting in the junior category in the lowest grade possible, Anna and her partner, Matthew Rooke, became one of Australia’s most successful couples.  They were the undefeated Australian Closed Champions, winning the title an unprecedented seven times from 2001 to 2007. They also won the Australian Open Championship in 2001, 2002 and 2003. These achievements have seen them represent Australia at six IDSF World Standard Championships.

In 2006, Anna became the first DanceSport competitor ever to be inducted into the Wagga Wagga Sporting Hall of Fame for her achievements in the sport.

Turning Professional in 2008, Anna won the Professional Australian Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, and represented Australia at three Professional World Championships. In 2011 and 2012, Anna represented Australia in the Invitational Teams Match at the British Championships in Blackpool. This was the first time an Australian couple had been included in this event.

Meagen Alderton

Involved in DanceSport for over 22 years, Meagen has only recently retired from international competition.  As a competitor, Meagen achieved many goals both personally and professionally. She originally danced all three styles, Ballroom, Latin and New Vogue, becoming Australian New Vogue Champion, Australian Ten Dance Champion, and World Ten Dance Amateur and Professional finalist. She represented Australia many times at the World Championships held in Europe, Asia, America and Canada.

More recently Meagen specialised in Latin American. She and her partner, Nathan Meyers, became the Australian Professional Latin Champions and Professional Rising Star finalists in the world’s largest competitions, including the British Championships at Blackpool, the UK Open and International Championships.

Meagen is now a highly respected and sought after coach and adjudicator, and is Coaches’ Representative with DanceSport Victoria. She travels Australia-wide, teaching many of our leading couples and presenting lectures, ensuring her vast knowledge is passed on to current and future DanceSport competitors.
